first_imgBack in February Linda Martin could barely run the length of herself. Now the Letterkenny-based teacher who hails from Dungloe is preparing for the Dublin Marathon tomorrow.Linda was chosen by Spar to be one of a team of runners, one from each county, to raise funds and prove to themselves that they could do the grueling 26.2 mile course. This is Linda’s last update before she crosses the line to do the business. We’re al behind you Linda! “This is it! After all the months of running and all the hard work the main event is upon me. Only a day to go!!!I went for a nice easy run this morning in Downings. This was my last run before the big one tomorrow. After missing 23 days training due to a bad chest infection I worried that I might not be fit enough or recover in time for the big day. Thanks to Teresa McDaid the fantastic experienced coach who trains Letterkenny AC I will be running the marathon on Monday. After missing so much training I thought I would have to walk the marathon. But due to her help, guidance, nutritional advice and enthusiasm I am back running again and managed 18 miles last Saturday. I know I will finish the marathon now.I would like to thank Teresa and everyone from Letterkenny AC for their help and support and I hope all the athletes doing the marathon get on well on Monday. They have been great to train with and I will continue to train with them this winter. They meet at the Aura every Tuesday and Thursday night so if you want to meet a friendly encouraging crowd of runners and get expert advice there is no better place for you to go. It is for all runners at all levels and its great fun!Thank you to everyone who sponsored me in aid of MS Donegal branch and the North West Cancer Group. Yesterday I lodged €1300 and I still have to collect the sponsor cards people took and the collection boxes from Tobins so thank you to everyone for their generosity!you can still sponsor me by emailing me at [email protected] and I will let you know where your nearest card is. I would also like to thank the third class I teach in Woodland National School. I am very lucky to be teaching such lovely boys and girls. They made me lovely good luck cards and they made posters for all the other Spartans yesterday.Fingers crossed all goes well on Monday. I am really really looking forward to it. Initially I was aiming to run the marathon in sub 5 hours but after being sick I think it will take me closer to 6 hours. Time is irrelevant to me now I just can’t wait to cross that finish line and get that medal and join the 0.01% of people on the planet who have completed a marathon!”NO HIDING PLACE FOR LINDA AS MARATHON DAY ARRIVES! was last modified: October 28th, 2012 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:DUBLIN MARATHONLINDA BRENNANSpartan Challengelast_img read more
