first_imgDONEGAL JUNIOR LEAGUE REPORTSBrian Mc Cormick CupArea Finals Letterkenny AreaMilford United 2 Kilmacrennan Celtic 1Milford United overcame local rivals Kilmacrennan Celtic in a tense and exciting Area Shield Final at Moyle View Park by two goals to nil. Kilmacrennan started strongest and took the lead after 15 minutes when Timmy Burke tapped home a Mickey Mc Laughlin cross. Milford responded well dominating the final 25 minutes of half scoring twice through Adam Seerinha and then a goal from Gary Merritt. The second half was a tough encounter with both teams pushing hard for a goal. Caolan Mc Gettigan had a few good saves but gilt edge chances fell to Merritt and Seerinha but both failed to convert. Milford clinched the Area Shield and now face St. Catherines in the Brian Mc Cormick Cup semi-final.Donegal Town AreaSt. Catherines 3 Cappry Rovers 1S.t Catherines hosted Cappry Rovers in the Area Final of the Brian Mc Cormac cup. St Catherines started quickest and had a few good chances in the first twenty minutes but couldn’t make a breakthrough. Cappry opened the scoring on twenty five minutes when Luke O’ Farrell tapped home at the back post after a counter attack. St. Catherines were back on level terms on thirty five minutes when Barry Rose scored. The Saints went into the lead in the forty third minute through Shane O’Rourke who finished to the bottom corner with a shot from the edge of the box. Cappry dominated the second half and will be disappointed not to have found an equaliser. Barry Rose sealed it for St Catherines in the 88th minute with his second of the day.Gweedore AreaGlenea United 2 Gweedore United 1Glenea won the Area Final with a hard fought victory in the Brian Mc Cormick Cup. Both sides had early season rust and were finding it difficult to create any clear cut chances. As the half progressed Glenea started to get on top through the efforts of Dean Mc Carry and Daniel Cannon. Liam McFadden had to make a good save from Sean Coll on 30 minutes after the ball broke to Coll in the box. Glenea opened the scoring on 35 minutes when after good work down the right by Daniel Cannon his cross was headed home from close range by Dean Gallagher. Gweedore had a chance to equalise on 40 minutes when after good work by Ciaran McFadden and John Mc Laughlin the ball was moved onto Jamie McGee but he dragged his effort wide. In the 2nd half Glenea started brightly and looked to double their lead but it was the away side that started to dominate the game and on 70 minutes Gweedore equalised when Shane O’ Donnell scored direct from a free-kick. Both sides pushed hard for a winner and just as it looked like extra-time Glenea found a winner on 85 minutes when after a good run down the left Shane Coll saw his cross headed goal wards by Dean Mc Carry, only for Brian Gallagher to clear off the line but his clearance landed at Sean Coll and he drove the ball home. Best for Glenea were Sean Coll & Daniel Cannon while Paul Doogan & Liam Mc Mullan were best for Gweedore Utd. Mick Lagan was the referee with Con McLaughlin & Michael McFadden on the lines.Lifford AreaCastlefin Celtic 5 Raphoe Town 1Castlefin won the Lifford Area Shield Final of the Brian McCormick Cup for the third year in a row after a comprehensive victory over Raphoe on Sunday. Castlefin took the lead in the 15th minute when Ronan Tourish picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and went on to score. Castlefin doubled their lead in the 25th minute when a Ronan Tourish through ball to his brother Barry saw him shoot to the corner of the net. Just before the break Damien Mc Annaney made it three nil after he reacted to a loose ball from a Peter Bryson header which was cleared off the line. Raphoe pulled a goal back in the 70th minute when Christy Bogle scored from the penalty spot after Peter Mc Glynn was fouled in the box. Five minutes later JP Malley made it 4-1 to Castlefin after he hit a first time shot to the net from a Simon Mc Glinchey pass. Ronan Tourish completed the scoring in the 85th minute when Castlefin were awarded a penalty for hand ball.
