first_imgPICTURE EXCLUSIVE: This is the scene after a house party went out of control on a Letterkenny housing estate in the early hours of this morning.Thirteen people were arrested after the major disturbance at a house on the Thornberry estate near Mountain Top.Up to 20 Gardai, some in protective clothing, were rushed to the disturbance around 5.30am. Gardai were first alerted to the incident after an initial complaint that a man had been assaulted.However when they arrived a more serious situation developed which saw a number of scuffles.Sofas and other furniture was thrown outside the house and beer bottles were broken on the street.A lady’s bracelet also lay on the ground amidst debris including broken glass. More broken furniture could be seen at the back of the the storey premises.Gardai from the Scenes of Crime Investigation team arrived yesterday morning and the area was sealed off for examination.It is understood that Gardai had to forcibly make their way into the house.The investigation is being led by Inspector David Kelly of Letterkenny Garda station.Four of the 13 people arrested were women and the other nine were men. A number of Scenes of Crime officers were at the address throughout the day carrying out various investigations.A Garda source said the incident looks like a party that got out of control but stressed they are taking the matter very seriously.“The scene speaks for itself. It looks like a bit of a warzone up there.“There’s broken glass, sofa and broken furniture on the street. “I understood that the unit were dealing with people who had consumed a lot of alcohol.“A number of people were arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and others are still being processed,” he said.Lord Mayor of Letterkenny Cllr Gerry McMonagle praised the Gardai for their swift action in dealing with the incident.“This is not the kind of image of Letterkenny we want to go out.
