There’s plenty of local GAA action on around the county this weekend.First up this afternoon is the meeting of near neighbours Arravele Rovers and Galtee Rovers in the West Senior Football Final.Both have to win west to stay in the county, however Galtee Rovers have the upper hand, having beaten Arravale in the recent O’Donoghue Cup final. Photo ©Stephen Gleeson The game throws in in Annacarthy at 3 o’clock, and Arravale Selector Tommy Twoomey says they’ll have to be ready for the Galtee’s challenge…Before that game, at 1.30, Rockwell Rovers meet Clonoulty Rossmore in the intermediate decider.Then this evening at half 5, Killenaule meet Carrick Swans in the South Senior Hurling Final.Swans are the most decorated south tipp hurling club with 22 south titles to their name.However, Killenaule have 21 titles, and a win this evening would see them level with Swans.That game is on in Fethard.Also down for decision this evening is the North Senior hurling final which throws in at 6pm in NenaghNenagh Eire Og face Borrisoleigh, in what is expected to be a pulsating game.Borrisoleigh Coach Johnny Kelly is a Portumna man, and with the Galway in the All Ireland Final tomorrow, he says his sole focus is on the North game…Finally this evening sees the Mid Tipp Intermediate hurling final at 6 o clock in Holycross.It sees Thurles Sarsfields up against Gortnahoe Glengoole.
Former Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba’s bid to become the next head of the Ivorian Football Federation took a massive hit after he secured zero votes from members of the Association of Former Ivorian Footballers.Of the 14 members in the Association, 11 voted for his rival, league president Sory Diabate, while three persons abstained.The third candidate, the current Vice President, Idriss Diallo also got no votes from the ex-players.The results of the election, which was done via video conferencing, has reportedly sparked a massive debate in the Ivory Coast.Drogba had been the massive favourite going into the polls, particularly after experienced administrator Eugene Diomande withdrew from the race and publicly backed the former Ivorian captain.He had also been endorsed by 48 professional clubs in the country.According to Afrik Foot, Drogba will hope to have better luck when members of the Active Footballers Association, the coaches, referees and the physios also cast their votes.“I want to get more involved. I think more and more about it. Twenty-nine-year-old David Crossman, also called “Bling”, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Clive Nurse when he appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday where he was arraigned with three counts of armed robbery.It is alleged that on September 30, 2018, the accused of Stewart Path, Christianburg, Wismar, Linden; along with two others, robbed Kriss Jinn of $30,000 in cash. It is also alleged that they robbed Michael Charles of a Samsung S6 Edge cellphone valued $150,000 and two silver chains. Additionally, they were accused of robbing Javon Bobb of a gold chain valued $6000.The incident reportedly occurred on the Demerara River in the vicinity of the Mackenzie shore, Linden while they were armed.Preliminary enquiries disclosed the victims were partying at the Library ‘3’ Night Club located at Rainbow City, Mackenzie, and later left the location and proceeded to the Titanic Boat Landing at Mackenzie.Subsequently, the three suspects – two males and a female – entered the boat and as it proceeded over to the Wismar shore, the two males held the victims at gunpoint and relieved them of the items.Upon arrival on the other side, the suspects made good their escape. Crossman was later identified as one of the suspects.Back in July, he was acquitted of a break and entry and larceny charge after he found not guilty of the offence by Magistrate Nurse. He was accused of breaking and entering the dwelling house of Keneisha Samuels and stealing a quantity of items, all of which amounted to a total value of $450,000.David Crossman, also called “Bling” He will make his next court appearance on December 7.
