2.2 Tons of Cocaine Seized in Colombian Caribbean Waters

first_img Colombian Coast Guard personnel seized 2.2 tons of cocaine being transported on a speedboat in the Caribbean Sea and arrested the five crew members, one of them Honduran, the Colombian National Navy announced Monday. Units of the Pacific Naval Force located and intercepted the “go-fast” boat, with three outboard motors, when it was at sea near the coast of the Colombian locality of Sapzurro, in the province of Choco. Admiral César Narváez, the commander of the Pacific Naval Force, told AFP that the seizure of the drugs was achieved using intelligence information obtained from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), supplied to the Colombian police. According to that information, the contraband, valued at around US$ 60 million, is believed to belong to the Los Urabeños criminal gang, the Navy’s announcement indicated. Share Tweet Police Chief Cyril Carette (file photo)The police chief has announced another traffic change which will affect bus drivers and passengers who commute into the city of Roseau on a daily basis.Carette expressed concern regarding traffic congestion in Roseau particularly on Independence Street at a press conference recently, stating that bus drivers don’t adhere to traffic rules and regulations and this must be addressed.“For a while now we have been experiencing traffic congestion on Independence Street and we just realize that bus drivers have been stopping and parking on Independence Street in a willy-nilly fashion and we need to regulate traffic in the city of Roseau”.According to him, there is “on average fifty (50) vehicles coming into the country” on a monthly basis.To solve this issue of traffic congestion within the city the bus stop on Independence Street will be removed as of May 31st, 2012.“In order to alleviate traffic congestion on Independence Street we are from the 31st of this month moving the bus drop off point to the bus stop on Independence Street between the E. C Loblack Bridge and the Great George Street Bridge getting out of Roseau”.Bus drivers will now have to drop off and await passengers in that location. 13 more deaths reported over the weekend in Iowa due to COVID-19
