PARENTS COME OUT IN SUPPORT OF SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOLS

first_imgPARENTS and politicians have vowed to fight the closure of two special needs nurseries in Co Donegal. They spoke at a meeting at a Letterkenny hotel last night – as the HSE works to close facilities at Ballaghderg in the town and at St Agnes in Donegal Town. The Donegal County Childcare Committee (DCCC) had the public meeting. “The parents of severe-needs children need support, they need help,” said Gina Grant, a mum of Ballaghderg pupil.“Once these services are gone, they’re gone forever and we can’t allow that to happen.”DCCC held a public consultation last month, asking parents and service providers for their opinion on supports and policies that would be needed if students with special needs were integrated into mainstream preschools. But after the parents of children with complex medical needs addressed the meeting, a number of parents and service providers said they believed the plan was unworkable. Gina Grant says many local politicians are backing their campaign.“I never thought I’d need help like this and I did. It could be someone else in the future and parents and people need to come out and support Ballaghderg,” she said. PARENTS COME OUT IN SUPPORT OF SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOLS was last modified: June 11th, 2013 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:PARENTS COME OUT IN SUPPORT OF SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOLSlast_img
